Examinations for children and young people

Cambridge English exams are among the most recognised and prestigious language qualifications. The exams can also help children with admissions to schools in the Czech Republic and abroad. See the list of universities in the Czech Republic that recognise Cambridge English certificates.

YLE exams are designed for primary school children. They are very popular and well-liked because they motivate children to improve in a fun way, are practical and provide a unique overview of a child's progress in English language acquisition. In the Czech Republic alone, several thousand pupils take the tests each year. Children leaving primary school should have English at CEFR level A2 - equivalent to the YLE Flyers and KET for Schools.
For older children, there are KET, PET and FCE exams, or a "for schools" version of these exams.

There are six levels of examinations for children and young people

YLE Starters - Cambridge English: Starters (pre-A1)

YLE Movers - Cambridge English: Movers (A1)

YLE Flyers - Cambridge English: Flyers (A2)

KET for schools - Cambridge English: Key for Schools (A2)

PET for schools - Cambridge English: Preliminary for Schools (B1)

FCE for schools - Cambridge English: First for Schools (B2)

What does the "for Schools" version mean?

This version of the exam is specifically tailored to pupils and students to increase their motivation to learn English. The 'for Schools' version of the exam is exactly the same and the difficulty level of the exam sections is also the same. The only difference lies in the content and wording of the topics, which are chosen with regard to the range of interests and experiences of school pupils. The certificate for the 'for Schools' examination is identical to the certificate for the General English examination.
